Announcement

The Portuguese ministry of Health, through the project team for the Electronic Health Record, will hold the 1st International meeting on the electronic Health Record that will take place in the 26th of November in Lisbon. This meeting aims at fostering the contact with some of the national or regional level programs of implementation of eHR systems throughout the world, counting on the presence of leading role personalities as well as some of the finest experts in critical fields such as the clinical and technological architecture, the semantics, the security, the ethical and legal aspects and change management. The target audience comprises the health professionals in public and private sectors, managers, decision-makers, IT professionals in the eHealth area, university scholars and researchers.

The implementation of an electronic Health Record system has been established as a priority in many countries. In Portugal, as well, it was designated as one of the five flagship measures in the Digital agenda 2015 announcement. It’s a structuring project for the interoperability of health information systems, bridging public and private sectors, different healthcare professionals and levels of care. It sets a foundation for the process of change and for patient’s mobility, leading to improvements in security, safety and quality of healthcare, diminishing the waste of valuable resources.

We believe that Portugal has good conditions for a successful eHR program: the dimension of the country’s population, the centrality and quality of the public healthcare system, the dynamics of the private healthcare players, the advanced level of IT penetration and usage in health organizations, adding to the orientation to a simple, incremental model, encompassing all the stakeholders and in alignment with european community programs.

The 1st International meeting on the electronic Health Record is intended to be a space for reflective thinking and learning with the successes and failures of those who are already ahead in the path, to help us validate some of our options and initiate another step in the huge challenge of implementing an eHR system in Portugal.
